Ph Paper
How does pH paper work?
- This paper strip is added to a solution where the color change will indicate the pH level. Now as we just learned we can tell if a substance is acidic or basic based on the pH scale
How do you read pH paper?
- After the pH paper is dipped into the solution the strip will be compared to a chart to tell us if the substance is basic or acidic
- If the color of the pH strip is red, orange or yellow that means that the substance is acidic
- If the color of the pH strip blue, indigo, or violent that means that the substance is basic
- There is a common acronym used for this called ROYGBIV- this stands for red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet which are the colors that represent a number on the pH scale
